To travel from one place to another, especially on foot.
A journey, often without a fixed destination made with a desire to explore and discover. A form of meditation, where the walker observes and absorbs the ambiance evoked by place. Meandering through a land or cityscape the traveller engages in a physical and mental journey, the wandering soul collects the sights, sounds and smells experienced, adding them to the mind's map, forming a unique contextual space memory. Psychogeography suggests that the environment can influence our mood, behavior, and thoughts. As psychogeographers we might seek out places that evoke certain emotions or create unexpected experiences, exploring the psychological effects of the city's concrete layout, architecture, and atmosphere.
In this exhibition the artists have strived to record and share their journeys of sense and memory, to summon the atmosphere of place and past through artists' books, prints, paintings and photography.
A group exhibition with work by Sheila Borthwick, Alastair Kinroy, Catherine Marshall, Elaine Robson and Judith Rowan.
